Headteacher's message

Well done to all staff and pupils for another fantastic year at Uplands.

Thank you to parents and carers for your support by ensuring that children attend school every day, arrive on time and for attending the many events, workshops and assemblies.

We hope you have a safe, happy and fun Summer and look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 3rd September.

A message from the Governors

It has been a busy and rewarding year for our school community.  Governors would like to say a huge well done to the children for their hard work.  We also wish our Year 6 leavers good luck as they move on to the next stage of their education.  They have made us so proud.

We would also like to thank all staff for their dedication and commitment to our pupils.

On behalf of the governors, I hope you all have a restful summer break and we look forward to seeing you for the start of the new school year.

WELL DONE & THANK YOU!

Well done and farewell to our Year 6 pupils

We say a sad farewell to all our Year 6 pupils today.  You have worked incredibly hard this year, achieved great results in their SATs and been a fantastic group of young people.

All your teachers and the rest of the staff and governors would like to wish you very best wishes for the next chapter in your lives as you move to secondary schools.  We are very proud of you and will miss you.

Year 6 celebrated the end of their time in primary school with a disco and pizza party last night.  It was a great success!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Changes to Free School Meal Vouchers - important information

The way Sandwell MBC deliver their financial support is changing. The council is rolling out the new Crisis and Resilience Fund to support residents in financial difficulties while also helping them become more financially secure in the long term. This will help them to target our support to the families and children who need it most.

The fund will help people when they face a financial emergency, such as struggling to pay for food, energy bills or other everyday essentials. It will also provide longer-term support to help residents manage their money, access advice, boost job prospects and avoid future problems. The council wants to make it easier for people to get help early, before money worries become a crisis.

The Crisis and Resilience Fund will allow Sandwell MBC to continue to financially support any family struggling to pay for food. This financial help with food bills will be made available to anyone who is struggling at any time – not just families whose children receive benefit-related Free School Meals during the school holidays.

Vouchers will no longer be automatically issued by schools to families who receive benefit-related Free School Meals.

Instead, anyone – including families who just miss out on being eligible for Free School Meals – will be able to request help to buy food at any time throughout the year, up to three times a year.

Please refer to the council website - www.sandwell.gov.uk/crf - where applications for assistance can be made from Monday 20 July 2026.

There’s also lots of support and free activities available for families:

Collecting children at the end of the school day

Please remember that collection times are 3.20pm.

Parents and carers must be ready and waiting at the exits (if you collect from the main playground, please wait behind the orange line) before the children come out of school.

To ensure safeguarding, teachers must be able to see each parent/carer before they will release a child - do not call your child over to you.

Please call the school in advance if there are issues with collection and we can ensure your child(ren) will go into 4 Community Trust.

Children who are not collected on time will be taken to the 4Community Trust wraparound care.  They will charge you and you will have to pay.

School policy states that an uncollected pupil whose contacts are unreachable has to be reported to Sandwell Children's Trust and the police.

Great British Summer Savings

Rising prices can make life's little treats harder to afford, especially during the school holidays, when costs build up for families.

From 25th June to 1st September, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of activities.  Combined with free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England, families and young people will be able to enjoy experiences that make summer special. Visit https://summersavings.gov.uk for more information.
