Parent Information about TikTok
Live Streaming
Live streaming is the broadcasting of real-time, live video to an audience over the internet. All you need to be able to live stream is an internet enabled device, like a smart phone or tablet, and a platform to broadcast on. You can liken it to an ‘on the scene’ news broadcaster or shows like Big Brother, where the phrase ‘You are live, please do not swear!’ was made popular.
Do you know what your child is doing on their phone, tablet, iPad or computer? We have recently been made aware of a few incidents of children posting inappropriate videos on social media outside school. These are the main sites with the age limits:
Application | Age Limit |
Dubsmash | 13 |
Facebook and Messenger | 13 |
Flipagram | 13 |
Glide | 16 |
Google Hangouts | 13 |
13 | |
Live.ly | 13 |
Movie StarPlanet | 13 |
Musical.ly | 13 |
Omegle | 13 |
ooVoo | 13 |
ROBLOX | 13 |
Snapchat | 13 |
Tumblr | 13 |
16 | |
Xbox live | 13 |
Playstation Network | 18 for Master Account. 7 for Sub Account |
You must talk to your children about appropriate and inappropriate sites. Make sure that the sites that your child access are age appropriate.
Children need to know that anyone can access their social media accounts if they wish to.
Even if videos are deleted, it is still possible that other people may have copied it and can use it again.
Parental Controls
Video Games can be great, with many social and educational benefits, however it is essential that children are protected whilst they play. Due to the nature of games, man can be totally inappropriate for primary aged children. Please see below for more information about the PEGI age rating system that you will find on all games.
