Newsletter 9th May 2025

Well done and thank you to all our year 6 children who have been working especially hard this year. Lots of the children will be taking the SATs tests next week. All Year 6 children are invited to come into school for breakfast next Monday to Thursday so they can have breakfast and spend some time with their friends before they go up to class.
You have worked very hard so do your best and remember that all your teachers are very proud of you!
SCHOOL NEWS
Uplands Manor Makes Music!
Our first Year 4 Make Music Workshop was a great success. Thank you to those that attended. Look out for your Year 3, 4 & 5 class letters about more upcoming workshop dates!

Year 5 visit to Bristnall Hall Academy
Last week, Year 5 were invited to visit Bristnall Hall Academy to watch their amazing dance extravaganza.
We walked in the beautiful sunshine and were treated to an incredible show with a range of dance styles and groups. Children left the show enthusiastic and inspired and we discussed our favourites on the walk back.
ATTENDANCE
Unauthorised absence from school - what is it?
Unauthorised absences are those which the school does not consider reasonable and for which no ‘leave’ has been granted.
This type of absence can lead to the school referring to the Local Authority for penalty notices and/or legal proceedings.
Unauthorised absence includes (however this list is not exhaustive):
- Term time holidays, including any arranged by other family members or friends
- A non-infectious illness or injury that would not affect their ability to learn
- Accompanying siblings or parents to medical appointments;
- No proper explanation
- Shopping trips;
- Looking after other children
- Because they had a late night
- Birthdays (your child's or anyone else)
- Day trips;
- Other leave of absence in term time which has not been agreed.
- Absences not deemed 'for exceptional purposes' by the headteacher
Other important information about Attendance and absences.
- Illness taken immediately prior to a Leave of Absence or directly after will not be authorised unless medical evidence is provided. This is the same for any absences immediately before or after a school holiday.
- One day will be authorised for a religious celebration if a leave of Absence form has been completed.
- Children who arrive at school after the close of registration are marked using a 'U'. This indicates that they are in school for safeguarding purposes, however is counted as an absence for the session;
Attendance - medical appointments
We understand from time-to-time medical appointments have to be taken in school time, but please can children be brought to school before and after appointments when appropriate. For example an appointment at 9:30am- the child can come into school at 8:40 and then be collected for the appointment.
Absences from school that are not sickness related
If your child will be off school for a religious festival or other absence (not including sickness), you must complete a Leave of Absence form. If you do not inform school before the absence, it could be unauthorised.
Schools have to follow Government policy and it is a legal requirement that you phone, text or email attendance@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk to discuss any absences from school.
Late collection after school
Children who are not collected from school by 3.30pm will be sent to the 4Community Trust after school club until you pick them up.
The wraparound care is run by 4Community Trust, who are separate to school. You will have to pay the club manager in cash or by card at the time you collect your child. Their charges are £6 for collection before 4pm and £12 for collection between 4-6pm. The club closes at 6pm so the charge after 6pm is £1 per minute.
It is your responsibility to collect children on time so they don't need to be sent to the club and you don't need to pay charges.
Clubs
Children attending clubs must be collected promptly at 4.30pm. If you are late, your child will be taken to the 4Community Trust After School Club and you will be charged.
The deadline for Summer Club closed last Friday. If your child has been offered a place, you will receive a message on the School Gateway app by Friday 11th April.
It is, therefore, important that you have the School Gateway App on your phone and notifications on to receive messages from school.
Please do not send children to a club unless you have received a message offering them a place.
