Newsletter 30th January 2026

We have a vacancy for a governor to represent parents on the school Governing Board. If you would like more information, please email headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

The closing date is Friday 6th February 3.30pm.

SCHOOL GATEWAY APP

Less than half of Uplands Manor parents and carers are using the School Gateway app.

This means that over half of you are missing important information and communication from school.

Without using the app, your child could miss out on events, visits and you will miss important information and updates.

It takes less than 5 minutes to download the app and sign up.

Do it today!

Do we have the correct phone numbers for you?

Have you changed your phone number recently? It is really important that we have the correct number to be able to contact you in an emergency. If you are not sure, please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Congratulations to our amazing girls' football team

We are really proud of our Girls' Football Team. They recently took part in the Primary Stars Football competition at the WBA Dome. They were a credit to the school and managed to win 1 game and draw 2. Brilliant performance!

Y3 Egyptians day

Year 3 were visited by Portals to the Past where they explored and delved into the lives on Ancient Egyptians. This experience gave them an opportunity to handle real Egyptian artefacts; play games they would have played as well as hearing amazing stories from this time period. They even got to see what mummification looked like!

Inspire workshops

It is really lovely to see so many parents and carers attending Inspire Workshops. We enjoy being able to invite you into school and your children love spending time with you.

More dates are coming up - put them in your diary and use the School Gateway app so you don't miss reminder messages.

2S had a great time in their reading workshop, making predictions and sequencing a story. Parents fed back that it was really helpful to see what we do in year 2 and hopefully this will help with our reading at home. Great work 2S!

Year 5 Wonderdome Planetarium

Year 5 pupils recently participated in a WonderDome Planetarium experience. This event served as an immersive launch for their new Science topic on Earth and Space.

During the session, children explored the solar system and observed the Apollo moon landings through interactive  visuals projected inside a mobile dome.

Uplands School Council

Improving Our Book Corners

Last term, our School Council spent time focusing on the effectiveness of book corners in classrooms and how these spaces support children’s enjoyment of reading.

The children gathered feedback from their peers and asked thoughtful questions about what helps make a book corner welcoming and useful. They identified several ideas to improve these spaces, including:

  • More cushions and cosy seating
  • A wider range of books, especially from popular and well-loved authors
  • Making areas near windows warmer, as these can feel quite cold

The School Councillors shared this feedback clearly and confidently, showing how well they can represent the views of others. Their work is already helping staff reflect on classroom environments and consider small changes that can make a big difference to children’s reading experiences.

We are very proud of the way the children have worked together, listened to others, and used their voices to help improve our school.
