Newsletter 26th September 2025

Welcome to the new academic year

We hope your children are settled into their new classes and getting used to new routines. We are here to help anyone who is struggling.  If you have any concerns, you can ask to speak to your child's class teacher.  The class teacher knows the children best and should be the first person you speak to about any concerns.

To contact your child's teacher, you can speak to them at the end of the school day or get a message to them by calling the office on 0121 558 1602 and leave a message, emailing your child's year group or by emailing headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

Please remember that teachers are in class during the day so won't be able to ring you until children have left school.

Year group email addresses are:

  • thelodge@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • eyfs@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • year1@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • year2@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • year3@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • year4@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • year5@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
  • year6@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

School uniform - thank you!

The children look very smart.  Thank you for sending them into school wearing the correct uniform and shoes.

If you need any uniform, we have a rail in Reception with uniform and coats.  A second rail has been ordered so we can give you a better choice.  Please take what you need.

Thank you to lots of families who have donated uniform and coats.  Our cupboard is now full so we will have a lot more items to offer.  We don't need any more clothes for now but would be grateful for donations of black shoes or plain black trainers, hats, scarves and gloves.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Please read the following important reminders to keep everyone safe in our school.

Food containing nuts must not be brought into school as we have members of our school with severe nut allergies.  Please check the labels of food to make sure it doesn't contain nuts (e.g. Nutella).

If you ride a bike, scooter or wear roller boots to school, please do not ride them in the playground.

Please do not bring dogs into the playground - not even if you are carrying them.

Please do not smoke, vape or use e-cigarettes anywhere on the school grounds.

Please don't swear in school.  We understand that you may be frustrated or upset at times but please remember that there are other adults and children who will hear you.

Please also remember that, while we are here to help you, our staff do not deserve to be shouted at or sworn at.

Remember that Receptionists will not know about your situation or things that have happened. You need to speak to the right person - just ask and we will find someone.  In some cases, we may need to take a message for another member of staff to call you. Please be patient.

We reserve the right to ask you to leave school if your behaviour is aggressive or threatening.

Collection at the end of the school day

To ensure everyone's safety, if you collect your child from the main playground at the end of the school day, please wait behind the orange line in the allocated areas for your child's year group. Teachers need to see the adult collecting them before they will release the child.

Sandwell SEND Local Offer survey - last few days to be part of the consultation

https://consultationhub.sandwell.gov.uk/chief-executive/sandwell-local-offer/

Sandwell Council is inviting parents, carers and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to share their views on the current SEND Local Offer website.

The Local Offer provides vital information about services and support available across education, health and social care for children and young people with SEND. It is a key resource for families and now Sandwell Council is redesigning the website to make it even more helpful, accessible and easy to use. The council wants to hear directly from those who use the site- or would like to – to help shape a new version that truly meets the needs of local families.

The survey is open until Sunday 28 September 2025.

Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills , Councillor Harnoor Bhullar, said:

“We know how important it is for families to be able to find the right support quickly and easily. That’s why we’re redesigning the SEND Local Offer website – and we want to make sure it’s shaped by the people who use it.

Your feedback will help us build a website that works for everyone, whether you’re looking for school information, health services, activities, or advice. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and help us make the Local Offer the best it can be.”

The survey asks about how families and young people use the current website, what works well, and what could be improved. It also explores ideas for new features, such as easier navigation, better search tools, and more visual content.

Families who take part will also have the opportunity to join a new Local Offer Feedback Group, helping to test and shape the website as it develops.

Words Matter

New Best Start in Life website

On 1 September 2025 the Best Start in Life website was launched, as part of the Plan for Change and giving every child the Best Start in Life. This improved support for families builds on the proud legacy of Sure Start and will help more children be ready to start school.

The Best Start in Life website will officially replace the Childcare Choices website as the main source of information for early education and childcare support - offering a broader range of resources for families, including eligibility for childcare offers, information about free breakfast clubs and Best Start Family Hubs in their area, and support on pregnancy through to starting school and beyond.

Unicef - immunisation information

Unicef is a world wide organisation working with over 190 countries to protect the rights of the child to do whatever is needed to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential.

Unicef information tells us that vaccines are the world's safest method to protect children from life-threatening diseases.

Every year, UNICEF helps vaccinate almost half of the world’s children, giving them the chance to grow up healthy.

Our work in immunisation is guided by three goals:

  1. Catching up: vaccinating millions of children to restore immunisation progress lost during the pandemic and making catch-up immunisations part of routine services.
  2. No child left behind: reaching every child with essential immunisation and making new vaccines available to children in all countries.
  3. Stronger systems: building strong, sustainable health and immunisation systems for the future.

You can read more about the importance of immunisation by visiting https://www.unicef.org/immunization
