Newsletter 24th October 2025

School will be closed for the half term holiday from Monday 27th October to Friday 31st October.  We will also be closed for staff training on Monday 3rd November.

We look forward to seeing all children back in school on Tuesday 4th November.

Our boys' football team started their league fixtures last week against St Matthews and George Betts.

Unfortunately, they lost both games but showed high levels of commitment and were a credit to the school.

Our Girls football team also played a fixture against George Betts and managed to win 2:1. An excellent performance as it was their first game together!

Year 5 visit to Smethwick Old Church

Year 5 visited Smethwick Old Church this week as part of our RE topic 'What does it mean if Christians believe that God is loving and holy?'

The children were engaged throughout and showed their good knowledge of the subject.  As always, our children were well behaved throughout and delightful.  Thank you to Reverend Sara for making us feel so welcome.  We are looking forward to returning to the church on Wednesday 10th December to sing some Christmas songs.

BBC 500 Words Competition

500 Words is open for entries! Make sure you submit your stories before 9pm, Friday 7 November.

Important: Once you submit your entry, it cannot be changed. If you no longer want your story to be considered, you’ll need to email us to request for your entry to be deleted. Please check your story carefully before submitting.

There are two age categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year-olds and spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - as has always been the case for 500 Words, it's all about our writers' brilliant creativity! There are prizes to be won - each winner will take home a bundle of books and the gold winners will also win 500 books for their school library.

50 finalists will be invited to a star-studded grand final at Windsor Castle in February 2026, which will once again be hosted by Her Majesty Queen Camilla. If that's not enough, each winner will also see their story be read aloud by a superstar celebrity on TV, which will be shown as part of a special 500 Words programme with The One Show in early March.

Our official panel of celebrity judges, Sir Lenny Henry, Malorie Blackman, Francesca Simon, Charlie Higson and Frank Cottrell-Boyce will return to crown our next winners.

If you are a Teacher, Teaching Assistant, Librarian or SEND staff, and love to read and mark the work of 5-11 year-olds, then why not sign up to be one of our thousands of volunteer judges? Registration is now open and each volunteer judge is entered into a random draw and could see themselves attending the final.
