Beyond the Book Day

On Friday 26th November, we will be celebrating our first Beyond the Book Day of the school year. This term our theme is Diversity.

Children can come into school wearing their favourite outfit/a special outfit. This outfit may represent something that they feel celebrates their culture, religion, ethnicity etc.

We can't wait to show you what we get up to. Make sure you check our school Twitter pages to see all the wonderful activities we do.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Britannica Magazine

Uplands Manor is taking part in a new reading initiative that you and your child may be interested in.

Britannica Magazine, the oldest, most trust source of factual information across the word, is launching a new, exciting children's non-fiction magazine to engage children in reading, support child development and academic ability, and explore interests without screentime.

If you sign up to an annual Print + Digital subscription, you'll receive a free copy of the Britannica Children's Encyclopaedia (worth £25).

What's more, for every ten families who subscribe to the magazine under our school's name, we'll receive £100 (max. £1,000) to spend on non-fiction books for our classrooms and library, and support our school's reading initiatives for this year.

If you would like to take a look at the launch issue, you can view it here: https://issuu.com/whatonearthbooks/docs/britannica_sample_issue_01_nov

CELEBRATION

Congratulations to  the children who have received a Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher award this week.  They are:

  • Tallulah W for working hard in maths - when she is asked questions, she has been explaining her thinking very clearly
  • Lara V for listening carefully, persevering through a difficult maths task and completing all of her questions correctly
  • Ahkierah H for swimming beautifully and listening to the tips her swimming instructor gave her
  • Sophia H for swimming beautifully and listening to the tips her swimming instructor gave her.

It's Good to be Green but it's Great to be Gold!

We believe that it is important to celebrate achievements.  Each week, children may be given a gold letter from a member of staff or a certificate from Mr Dickinson, Miss Copestake or Miss James.

If your child has done something special outside school - maybe they have helped someone or done something special.  Tell us so that the Uplands community can share in their celebration. Email headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

Pupils who show exceptional behaviour for the majority of the week can be chosen to receive a gold letter.  Gold letters have been given to:

  • Ephraim A for being so kind and thoughtful to others. He is such a good friend!
  • Layton L for trying his best to follow the class rules
  • Faizaan A for his excellent concentration in class
  • Alishbah A for working hard on her presentation
  • Archie A for using Reading Plus at home to do extra reading
  • Selina K for using Reading Plus at home to do extra reading

ATTENDANCE

The national target for attendance in school is 96%.

It is really important that children are in school on time every day.

For the week ending 12th November, the whole school attendance was 91.5%.  The highest attending classes were:

  • RB - 96.1%
  • 1G - 93.3%
  • 2S & 2J - 94.6%
  • 3M - 93.4%
  • 4KS - 97 .7%

Well done to all these classes for their great attendance. Could your class be the highest in the year group next week?
