Important information for Year 6 parents

Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, a decision has had to be made that secondary school induction days will now be virtual.

In early July, schools will be sent a video to share with you and your child which will have information about transition.  Primary and Secondary Schools will work closely together to support children so that transition is as smooth as possible.

Dear Parents and Carers

Beyond the Book Day - Friday 18th June

This term, we will be exploring and celebrating poetry for Beyond the Book Day. Each year group will be reading and learning about a different poem and the poet it was written by. The children may even have the chance to write and perform some poetry. We can't wait! ðŸ™‚

CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENT

We believe that it is important to celebrate achievements.  Each week, children may be given a gold letter from a member of staff or a certificate from Mr Dickinson, Miss Copestake or Miss James.

If your child has done something special outside school - maybe they have helped someone or done something special.  Tell us so that the Uplands community can share in their celebration. Email headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

Congratulations to  the children who have received a Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher award this week.  They are:

  • Zeeshan A for his deputy head award- Great mathematical thinking
  • Zoya A for most improved TT Rockstars scores
  • Kane O for an amazing piece of writing - we are so proud of you !
  • Amelia B for most important TT Rockstars scores

REMINDERS

Hasn't the sunny weather been lovely?  It can be very hot when the children are out for break or lunchtime.  Please remember to send them into school with a sunhat or cap, a water bottle and suncream (which they will need to apply themselves).  Please also remember that for health and safety, school shoes should be worn.

On a child’s birthday (or on the nearest school day to that child’s birthday if it falls during a weekend or holiday period) they are invited to come into school wearing non-uniform so that they feel special and their birthday can be recognised. Don't forget to tell their teacher if their birthday was during a holiday, so they know why your child is not in uniform.

Children are not able to bring food to share (sweets, cakes, biscuits etc) into school on their birthday. Many foods contain ingredients that not all children can eat.  These include nuts, gelatine, dairy and this can cause upset as well as putting some children at risk.

What to do if someone in your household has coronavirus symptoms

If someone in your household has a coronavirus symptom (persistent cough, temperature or loss of taste or smell) then you must do the following:

 - book a PCR test for the symptomatic person at an official test centre

 - ensure your whole household isolates for 10 days or until a negative test result comes back for the symptomatic person.

You must not take a lateral flow test if you have symptoms - these are only for asymptomatic testing and do not replace the official PCR tests for people with symptoms.

Keeping everyone safe

It is vital that we continue following safety procedures to keep each other safe. Transmission rates have come down and we need to keep them down. Please make sure you are doing the following:

  • using the one-way system at school. This has not changed at all and everyone knows where to enter and exit the school site.
  • continuing to socially distance from other families in and around school, including keeping the children from different bubbles apart
  • wearing a face covering on the school site as there are a lot of people mixing at drop off and collection times.

What to do if you have a concern

If you have any concerns, please make sure that you raise these in a polite manner with staff. It is important that you speak with the class teacher and then escalate concerns if needed to ensure that they are resolved. The order in which to speak with staff is as follows

  • Class teacher
  • Year Leader or Assistant Head Teacher for your child's phase
  • Deputy Head Teacher
  • Head Teacher

Please do not keep your child off school. This does not help to resolve issues and such absences will not be authorised. We all want the very best for your children and it is important that we communicate and work together to resolve any issues.

Absences from school/Attendance

If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, you must inform school on every day of their absence. If we receive no reason, absences will be unauthorised.

If you receive a text from school or a phone call about your child’s absence, it is vital that you respond as soon as possible.

Every day of school missed means missed learning. Please support your child by getting them into school every day and making us aware of any issues so that we can support you.
