Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back!

Welcome back to a new school year at Uplands Manor and welcome to all of our new children and families.  It has been wonderful to have everyone back to school again and to see them having fun and learning together after so long out of school.  They are following all of our new systems and routines really responsibly and I am extremely proud of how sensible they are being and how well they are behaving.

Thank you also to the parents and carers for supporting our safety procedures at the start and end of the day.  We have continued to review and refine things every day and we now have systems in place that seem to be working and that a number of parents have given positive feedback about.  We will continue to do all we can to keep our school as COVID safe as possible in the months ahead.

All of the staff at Uplands Manor are very much looking forward to working in partnership with you over the year ahead to make sure that your children are happy, well cared for and achieving to the very best of their ability.

Welcome to all our new families to Uplands Manor.  We hope your children settle in quickly.  Please keep up to date with school information by checking the website for newsletters and year group/class letters.

Face masks in the school playground

In order to keep everyone safe, we would strongly advise parents and carers to wear a face mask when you are dropping off or collecting your children.

LABEL IT! LABEL IT! LABEL IT! LABEL IT! LABEL IT!

Please label every item of clothing, shoes, PE kits (even though children will be wearing it into school on PE day), coats, water bottles, lunch boxes, lunch bags, etc that your child wears or uses in school.

Any lost property that does not have the child's name on, will be regularly taken to the charity.  School does not take responsibility for lost items that do not have your child's name on.

Letters sent home this week

  • Pink and white data collection forms
  • Procedures for beginning and end of the day

If you have not received one of the letters on the list below, please check the website.

Parent Support Worker

Pam Randhawa, our Parent Support Worker is happy to help any of our parents and carers.  If you need advice or to help with completing a form, please ring the school office on 0121 558 1602 for a call back or to make an appointment or email psw@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

Unfortunately, Pam cannot see you without an appointment.

It's Good to be Green but it's Great to be Gold!

Pupils who show exceptional behaviour for the majority of the week can be chosen to receive a gold letter.  Gold letters have been given to:

  • Deen A for polite manners
  • Jasmeen S for excellent maths work with odd & even numbers
  • Amar B for excellent maths work with odd & even numbers
  • Leo S for being a good friend and having resilience towards his work
  • Liam for a positive start to Year 6
  • Manjot for a positive start to Year 6
  • Mikita for a positive start to Year 6

School reading books

Please can you check at home for any school reading books.  Please return them to school as soon as possible.

Mobile phones

Please do not allow your child to bring their mobile phone into school.  Year 6 will not be able to walk home alone yet so there is no need for them to bring their phone in.

Respecting our neighbourhood

Unfortunately, we have already received complaints about children running on the gardens of residents around school, litter being dropped and parents parking across driveways.

Please respect our neighbourhood and be responsible.

Parking around school

Last year, lots of you showed your commitment to parking legally, safely and responsibly around the school when you are dropping off or collecting children.  As we are now in a new school year, please remember the promise you made.

You promised:

  • to walk to school whenever possible, including parking further from the school and walking the last bit of the journey
  • to obey all road signs around our school site, including speed signs, yellow lines and zigzags etc
  • never to park, drop off or pick up across the yellow "School Keep Clear" zig zag lines - this is illegal and dangerous, putting pedestrians and other road users at risk
  • not to park on the pavement as this is a safe place for families to walk around school
  • not to block residents' drives - helping us to be excellent neighbours to local residents

If you haven't already signed up to the Parking Promise, please phone the school office or email your child's year group to request a form.  Once you have completed the form, a sticker will be sent to you to display in your car window to show that you are committed to our aim to keep all children and adults safe on the roads and pavements around our school.

ONLINE SAFETY

TikTok

A lot of children are using TiKTok which has an age restriction of 12 and above. The app allows children to watch and upload videos. Unfortunately, there are some videos which contain unsuitable content.  Please read the information leaflet and talk to your child about what they are watching and uploading.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Dates of all events happening at Uplands Manor can be found on the calendar  https://uplandsmanor.sch.life/Page/Calendar

Cancer Awareness Day - Wednesday 30th September

Our annual Cancer Awareness Day will be on Wednesday 30th September. Children can wear gold or blue clothes.

A number of families in our school community of staff, children and their parents will have been affected by someone suffering from cancer and will acknowledge the importance of raising awareness of and supporting cancer charities.

We are supporting two cancer charities: ‘Cancer Research’ and ‘The Chris Lucas Trust’, which is a children’s cancer charity.

There will be more details next week about how you can make donations.
