Art Mission Statement

At Uplands Manor Primary School, we strongly believe that art plays an integral part in children's physical, cultural, social and aesthetic development. Our aim is to teach art and design in a fun and creative way which ensures all children are engaged, inspired and challenged. We aspire to encourage our students to apply their creative skills to produce independent work, which reflects their ideas and imagination. Our pupils feel free to make mistakes and are encouraged in a positive, caring environment to reach their full potential. We are committed to providing all children with quality learning opportunities to engage in different aspects of art and design. Our curriculum gives pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form. While it is essentially a practical subject, art provides opportunities for reflection and, with increasing sensitivity, pupils will acquire the ability to make informed, critical responses to their own work and that of others. Studying artists and designers working today children will be given the opportunity to experience art in the wider environment. Through opportunities to work with local artists they will become aware of art and design as a possible future career choice in their local community and beyond.
