Newsletter 25th September 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
Our annual Cancer Awareness Day will be on Wednesday 30th September. Children can wear gold or blue clothes.
A number of families in our school community of staff, children and their parents will have been affected by someone suffering from cancer and will acknowledge the importance of raising awareness of and supporting cancer charities.
We are supporting two cancer charities: 'Cancer Research' and 'The Chris Lucas Trust', which is a children's cancer charity.
Staff will have buckets in the playground for your donations.

Learning for children not in school
Free School Meals and Isolating
If you are isolating and your child is entitled to free school meals, you can book a packed lunch with our school office. This must be done before 9:00am on the day required and can be booked in advance. Packed lunches must be collected from school by a family member/neighbour/friend who will need to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing.
Korey and Grace rap their way to £500 for Uplands Manor
In April 2020, while in school as key-worker children, two of our pupils (Korey Y4 & Grace Y6) wrote and recorded a rap video with Mr Williams. The video was entered into MedicSpot's National Handwashing Challenge, which thousands of other schools and parents around the country entered. Out of those thousands, Uplands Manor was chosen as the best entrant and won the top prize of £500 for the school to use for any purpose. After discussing it with Korey and his Year 5 classmates, we have decided to use the prize money to purchase a new outside TV for the playground - as the previous one had recently stopped working after many years use. It will be an exciting opportunity for the children to have music, exercise and dance videos during playtimes, as well as for showcasing videos and pictures of some of the great things that happen around school. Well done and thank you to Korey and Grace!
Roald Dahl Day
Roald Dahl is the author of some of the world's most loved children's books and, on Monday, we celebrated Roald Dahl Day in school.
Well done to class 5DG who won the KS2 Roald Dahl Day Quiz. Congratulations 5DG - you certainly are the Roald Dahl experts!
LABEL IT! LABEL IT! LABEL IT! LABEL IT! LABEL IT!
Please label every item of clothing, shoes, PE kits (even though children will be wearing it into school on PE day), coats, water bottles, lunch boxes, lunch bags, etc that your child wears or uses in school.
Any lost property that does not have the child's name on, will be regularly taken to the charity. School does not take responsibility for lost items that do not have your child's name on.

Please check at home if you have got any Uplands Manor reading books (they will have the Uplands Manor Primary School stamp inside).
Year 6 children - walking home alone

Parking around school
We have unfortunately received complaints of parents blocking driveways of houses around school and becoming verbally abusive to the residents when they are asked to move the car. This will not be tolerated. Information is being given to the local police.
