NEWS AND EVENTS
World Day for Cultural Diversity - Friday 21st May
We will be celebrating our first 'World Day for Cultural Diversity' or 'Day of Culture' on Friday 21st May. This will be an exciting day where we will be celebrating the diverse and multi-cultural pupils, staff and community that we are so fortunate to have at Uplands Manor!
On the day, children will learn about languages, music, food, dances, art and traditions from cultures that are representative of our school.
We are giving children the opportunity to come dressed in an outfit that represents their own culture. Or alternatively, they can come dressed in an outfit that is special to them or an outfit they wore for a celebration.
We look forward to seeing your wonderful outfits and learning about each other’s cultures!
Miss Iqbal
Diversity Lead and Class Teacher
Extra-Curricular Clubs
Thank you to the staff who have volunteered to run extra-curricular clubs in their own time during the summer term. Clubs can only be run within existing bubbles and, given restrictions and measures still in place, we are offering as much as we can during the summer term to as many year groups as possible.
A letter has been sent to the School Gateway app with the list of clubs for this term. Please email your response by Tuesday 18th May to headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk or you can click on the School Gateway message you received, and send your message in the 'type to reply' box below the message.
CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENT
Headteacher & Deputy Headteacher Awards
We believe that it is important to celebrate achievements. Each week, children may be given a gold letter from a member of staff or a certificate from Mr Dickinson, Miss Copestake or Miss James.
If your child has done something special outside school - maybe they have helped someone or done something special. Tell us so that the Uplands community can share in their celebration. Email headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk
Some children are sent to the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher for a special award. Congratulations to:
- Aneira N for fantastic partner work and supporting others in maths and writing
- Victory J for his hard work in writing a narrative and editing it well, focusing on including the key features
- Tuyae L for showing determination and perseverance in PE whilst supporting his teammates
- Kaiden H for being a supportive friend and role model
- Muhammed M for being a supportive friend and role model
- Arandeep M for being a supportive friend and role model
- Naryan S for being a supportive friend and role model
REMINDERS
Walking to and from school - behaviour expectations
We have received a number of complaints about parents allowing children to walk on the driveways and gardens of houses around school, kicking stones or garden ornaments and then becoming verbally abusive to the resident when they are challenged.
This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Please help us to maintain a good relationship with the residents around school.
School Gateway App - the way to receive communication from Uplands Manor
We send all communication to parents through the School Gateway App. If you have a smart phone, you will need to download the app and set it to receive push notifications. You can also login to https://login.schoolgateway.com/0/auth/login on a computer/tablet/ipad
This will mean that you receive all the important messages and communication from school.
If you need to set up a new account, download the school gateway app on your phone or use the following link online https://bit.ly/3eL2mz1
You can also reset forgotten passwords from this link if you click on 'existing user'.
If you need any help, speak to the school office.
Attendance
It is vitally important that children attend school every day and arrive on time. Unfortunately, a number of children arrive late each day, which means they miss important learning time. Any children who arrive after 9.30am will be given an unauthorised absence mark for the morning session in line with Sandwell's procedures.
Sickness
If your child is not well enough to attend school, please phone as early as possible so that we know the reason for their absence. If children have a stomach bug, they must not return to school for 48 hours after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea.
End of day collection
Children should be collected on time at the end of the school day. However, we know that emergencies can arise. If you are running late, please ring the school office as soon as possible so we can pass the message to the class teacher.
Children can only be collected from school by authorised adults. Please inform school if someone different is collecting your child.
