It's Good to be Green but it's Great to be Gold!

We believe that it is important to celebrate achievements.  Each week, children may be given a gold letter from a member of staff or a certificate from Mr Dickinson, Miss Copestake or Miss James.

If your child has done something special outside school - maybe they have helped someone or done something special.  Tell us so that the Uplands community can share in their celebration. Email headteacher@uplandsmanor.sandwell.sch.uk

Pupils who show exceptional behaviour for the majority of the week can be chosen to receive a gold letter.  Gold letters have been given to:

  • Tyler H for fantastic behaviour and effort in PE
  • Hannah P for being a fantastic illustrator
  • Nathaniel S for amazing still life sketches
  • Anna Z for amazing still life sketches
  • Aziah C for good behaviour and great contribution to class
  • Edna O for good behaviour and great contribution to class
  • Adam S for good behaviour and great contribution to class
  • Arshpreet S for good behaviour and great contribution to class

Year 2 Science

Our science topic this term, in Year 2, is Living Things and their Habitats. To help us learn more about this topic we invited an exciting visitor to the school!

We were very fortunate to have The Animal Man visit us and provide us with an interactive animal presentation where children discussed, classifications, habitats and eating habits of different animals like reptiles, mammals, mini beasts, birds and amphibians. The Animal Man shared interesting facts and stories about animals.

It was so pleasing to see how engaged, enthusiastic and excited the children were during the day’s activity and we have now created some beautiful pieces of work following this visit!

The national target for attendance in school is 96%.

It is really important that children are in school on time every day.

For the week ending 3rd December, the whole school attendance was 91.7%.  The highest attending classes were:

  • RJC - 95.5%
  • 1G - 94.1%
  • 2J - 94.4%
  • 3M - 98.2%
  • 4KS - 93.2%
  • 5R - 97.2%
  • 6 S - 94%

Free School Meal Vouchers for Christmas

We are pleased to inform you that Sandwell Council will be providing Food Vouchers for the Christmas holiday to all families who are entitled to Free School Meals.  You should receive the vouchers by email on Wednesday 15th December.  Please contact the school office on Thursday if you don't receive it.

School dinners - important information

All school meals (hot meal, sandwiches or a packed lunch from home) must be booked on the School Gateway app in advance (by 8am each day at the very latest).

If your child has a paid for or a free school meal - If your child is not in class when the register is taken, their meal will be cancelled.  If they arrive before 9.45am you will need to rebook their dinner with the Receptionist.

If children are late and arrive after 9.45am, they will only be able to have a sandwich for lunch.

Children with medical appointments - if you have told us in advance that your child will be late due to an appointment, their meal will not be cancelled.

Arrival at school each morning

Doors close at 8.55am.  Any children who arrive at school after 8.55am must be taken to the late door.

Any arrivals after 9.30am result in an unauthorised absence mark for the child's morning session.

Children who are late for school miss vital learning time.  If you need any support with attendance, please speak to Mrs Wilkins-Francis or Mrs Ford.

Safeguarding - Is someone else collecting your child from school?

If you need someone else to collect your child from school, you must ring school to let us know as early as possible.  Please make sure that you think of a password that you can tell both school and the person collecting.

If you do not tell us beforehand, we will not be able to release your child until we have spoken to you.

Passport renewal

If you are renewing your child's passport, the person verifying the ID has to have known you (the parent) for at least 2 years.

If you need a member of staff in school to verify the ID, please contact us before you add the school name to the application.

We will need at least 10 days notice to complete the verification.  A £5 charge per passport is payable on the School Gateway app before the verification will be completed.

Cool Milk

Year 4 - Unwanted Christmas gift bags

After Christmas in DT, Year 4 will be looking at bags and how they are used. For one of the activities we need to disassemble some gift bags.

If families of Year 4 children have any gift bags at Christmas that you don't want to keep, please could you send them in to school after the holiday to be used in the DT lesson.

Packed lunches

We have a number of children and staff in school who have nut allergies.  Please do not send in any food containing nuts - e.g. Peanut butter, Nutella or food items containing nuts.

Some children have brought sandwiches containing chocolate spread.  Please make sure this is chocolate spread and not a nut based spread.

It's cold outside!

Please make sure your child has a warm coat and perhaps a hat, scarf and gloves in school to wear at break and lunchtime.

Everything needs to be labelled - buy some sew in or stick on labels or simply use a pen to write their name somewhere on every item of clothing, shoes, bags, etc.  We have lots of children with the same initials so please write their full name so we can return any lost items to the correct child.  We cannot take responsibility for items that are not labelled.

Snow days - how to find out if we are closed

If we have to close school due to severe weather or any other reason, we will let you know as quickly as possible by sending a message on the School Gateway app and on social media.

Parents attending Assemblies

If you have been invited to attend an assembly, please go to the door in the top right corner of the main playground as soon as your child has gone into school.

Please do not leave the playground.  Assembly starts at 9am. Anyone arriving after 9.05am will not be permitted entry as it will disturb the children leading the assembly and impacts staff having to take parents through school.

GOVERNANCE

Parent Governor Vacancy

We have a vacancy for 1 Parent Governor.  If you are interested in becoming a Governor at Uplands Manor, please ask the School Receptionists for an information pack.
