Newsletter 1st April 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

End of term message

As we reach the end of term, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support.  It remains a challenging time for everyone and we will continue to work with you to ensure the very best for your children every day.

I have been so impressed with the positive attitudes, behaviour and effort I have seen from the children since they returned to school on 8th March – I am so proud of how well they are doing.  Please ignore talk in the press about ‘lost learning’ and ‘catch-up’ – the children are where they are and we will, over time, make sure they learn everything that they need to achieve their very best.  I would ask that you continue to support us at home by completing home learning tasks, reading with your child and ensuring they access remote learning whenever they have to isolate.

I wish all of our Christian families a very Happy Easter, and wish Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim families for the start of their holy month.

I very much look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 19th April.

Mr Dickinson

Head Teacher

Uniform expectations

Our school uniform is as follows:

Please note: all uniform can be purchased with or without the school logo.

  • Grey or black trousers, skirt or pinafore dress (summer term: grey shorts or a red and white patterned pinafore are allowed)
  • White or red polo shirt or white shirt / blouse
  • Red school jumper
  • Plain grey, black, white or red headscarves
  • Sensible plain black shoes (no boots, logos, white soles, sandals or jelly shoes etc.)
  • Plain grey, black, white or red socks or tights (not bright colours or patterns)
  • Plain headbands (no JoJo bows, flowers etc.)

Since September, we have not been enforcing our uniform policy due to covid and the financial pressures that we know some of our families are under. This was the right thing for us to do as a school and we will continue to take this flexible approach in the summer term.

However, whilst we are being flexible about uniform, unfortunately some of the clothing being worn into school is inappropriate:

  • No items of uniform being worn at all, just home clothes
  • Fashionable items being worn in place of uniform which can distract the focus from learning
  • Very short shorts and tops being worn (children should be covered up at all times)

Where inappropriate clothing is being worn, we will be sending home blue letters again in the summer term asking you to provide your child with more suitable alternatives.

PE kits after Easter

After Easter, children must come into school wearing their uniform every day.  They will no longer be able to come into school wearing their PE kits. Instead, they should bring their PE kit into school in a bag that can be left in their cloakroom for the half term.

Our PE kit is as follows:

  • Plain black shorts
  • White polo shirt
  • Black pumps or trainers

Plain tracksuit bottoms and tops can be worn on top of PE kits during cold weather.

There has unfortunately been some inappropriate clothing being worn into school for PE lessons:

  • Short tops exposing stomachs
  • Sports bras (with nothing over them)
  • Bright coloured and fashionable leggings, tracksuits etc
  • Jeans
  • Football tops

If you do not have some of the PE kit required, please send you child in wearing an appropriate alternative in the summer term.  PE kits (which are an important part of our uniform) should be being worn wherever possible.

Please note that Dorothy Parkes are now running their free used uniform service to support families.  To request items, please complete the Uniform Request Form and somebody will be in touch to let you know if they can help:

You can also have a confidential conversation with staff in school if you are experiencing financial difficulties and need support.
